Spc. Blair D. Thompson


Spc. Blair D. Thompson, 19, of Rome, N.Y., died June 25 when his mounted patrol came under small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire in the Konar province, Afghanistan.

Thompson was an infantryman assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault.)

Thompson entered the Army in July 2008 and arrived at Fort Campbell in December 2008.

His awards and decorations include:
National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Air Assault Badge and Weapons Qualification: M4 (expert).

He is survived by his mother, Arena Thompson of Vernon, N.Y.; and father, Vincent Thompson, of Rome, N.Y.
